Informal city

While the informal neighbourhood is not inevitable, it is often easier for decision-makers and more profitable for developers and developers to create a new city instead of restructuring precarious neighbourhoods. As a result, the most vulnerable populations are often excluded and condemned to survive in irregular, landlocked neighbourhoods and not served by quality essential services. The recommendations proposed by the Informal City Working Group highlight the need to anticipate urban extensions, to innovate services environmentally and to ensure the participation of residents and stakeholders, as well as the accountability of donors, to human, cultural and ecological values, to promote sustainable development of cities and territories.
